Fast forward a few months and it's moving day! With the help of our parents, Jen and Jud, and professional movers, we got everything out. Most of our things were placed in storage while the day to day necessities were moved into our temporary 1200 square foot apartment. (More to come on that!) So in a very short period of time we went from a home filled to the brim with our most cherished things to a house filled to the brim with just memories.
So here's a trip down memory lane:
Here is Allie and Sara's room. When we first moved it had light blue walls with white picket fence wall paper. Matt was the first to occupy it but we moved him out so Lorie could move in with us. After Allie was born this room got a make-over! Purple, purple, and purple! Allie got a roommate when Sara was born. A few things I'll remember about this room: 1. it got REALLY cold during the winter and REALLY hot during the summer. We finally learned that by keeping the door open helped regulate the temperature. 2. it had a skylight we thought was the source of the temperature problem that Jud patched up.
This was Zach and Matt's room! This was a great room! The boys got a Foosball table for Christmas one year that sat in the middle of this room. There was a basketball hoop drilled into the corner wall that got ripped off the wall when Zach and Matt decided to see how well they could dunk the ball. The boys started off in a double bed but we upgraded them to bunk beds a few years ago. My favorite memory of this room was the time I spent tucking the boys in, talking with them and singing Primary songs. (I used that time to practice the songs when I was Primary Chorister.)
This is the wall that I past thousands of times in 7 years as I would go up and down the stairs. We had our family picture on this wall. Every time I passed our old family picture I was reminded that someone was missing from that picture. I was reminded daily that our little Sara was needed to complete our family.
This is our brand new kitchen that was just remodeled this past summer. We thought we would remodel this past summer so we could sell our home next year. We didn't even get to enjoy it! But it was nice for a few months. Before Allie was born, we ate every meal at the bar. Even after Allie was born we ate more at the bar than at our kitchen table.
This is where we had our piano. The Korean chest was there before the piano. It was great teaching and listening to the boys learn how to play the piano. We endured (according to them) tortuous hours of practice time and pure joy when they finally "got it" with a particular piece.
This was our front room. This is where we spent most of our time. Our Christmas tree looked amazing in the corner! We watched Allie and Sara learn how to crawl and walk back and forth from the front door to the sliding door. Zach and Matt played hours upon hours playing soccer, baseball, football, and anything else they could think of. Tom would sit in the chair that faced the front door and would throw the ball to the boys. Matt eventually would catch most of them as he passed up Zach in height. Zach and Matt would take turns sitting on the bottom step playing catcher while the other would practice pitching. The most memorable was when they were playing soccer right after Allie was born. She was sitting in the bouncer and Zach yells out, "OK, the goal is between the TV and Allie!"
Finally, the infamous tree right outside our house! The boys climed this tree, swung from its branches, and used it as a base for pick up baseball games with the neighbor. It served as the backdrop for every first and last day of school pictures. And yes, Zach broke his arm falling from one of those branches. So here are the kids (minus Sara who still hasn't learned to pose for my pictures) one final time in the tree.
What a sweet post. I hope your new place brings memories just as sweet :)
